Lyrics
[Intro]
Wind over the dunes,
three glasses of tea
[Verse 1]
On the northwest edge of Africa, where the Sahara meets the sea,
a long Atlantic coastline, cold currents running free,
the stony hamada plains and the dunes of golden sand,
a thousand shades of desert stretching out across the land.
Laayoune by the riverbed, Dakhla's lagoon so blue,
fishing boats at daybreak where the rich cold waters flow,
kites ride the trade winds dancing on the bay,
and camels cross the horizon at the closing of the day.
[Pre-Chorus]
Pour the tea three times, the old ones say:
the first is bitter as life, the second sweet as love,
the third is gentle as death
[Chorus]
Western Sahara, sands by the Atlantic,
tidinit and ardin in the night,
Hassaniya poems on the wind,
stars above the desert burning bright
[Verse 2]
The Sahrawi people, children of the open sand,
the camel and the khaima, the tent upon the land,
melhfa colours flowing like a painted evening sky,
poets in Hassaniya where the oldest stories lie.
Spanish Sahara it was called until nineteen seventy-five,
but older than the maps are the songs that stay alive,
desert guitars are humming, handclaps keep the time,
the tbal drum is calling in a slow and steady rhyme.
[Chorus]
Western Sahara, sands by the Atlantic,
tidinit and ardin in the night,
Hassaniya poems on the wind,
stars above the desert burning bright
[Bridge]
Fennec foxes listening underneath the moon,
gazelles across the gravel plain, the wind a whistled tune,
on the cliffs of Cap Blanc, among the rarest seals on Earth,
the desert and the ocean, every life and every birth.
[Final Chorus]
Western Sahara, sands by the Atlantic,
tidinit and ardin in the night,
Hassaniya poems on the wind,
stars above the desert burning bright
[Outro]
Three glasses of tea,
the wind over the dunes
